I am directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt, to

inform you that, subject to your being passed by the Medical Adviser to this Department as being physically fit for service he proposes to select you for appoint- ment as a Nurse in the Hongkong Medical Department with salary at the rate of £110 a year rising after three years service to £130 per ammm. For purposes of payments in the Colony salaries fixed in sterling are converted into dollars as to 80% at the rate of la/9d, and as to 20%

at a rate fixed by the Government and based on the avor-

valu

age exchange of the dollar during the month ending on the 15th day of the month for which sɩlary is to be paid.

2. It is to be understood that your engagement is for not more than three years from the date of your arrival in the Colony; and that, if it is established to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not

qualified for efficient service there, he will, subjeot

to the confirmation of the Secretary of State, hare full

power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said three years without giving you any further compen-

sation than a passage back to England, which will be

granted only if the Governor is satisfied that you have,

by your good conduct, deserved it. If not previously
